Pioneer Minister of Ozarks, 79, Takes Wife to Share Last Days
Old Church Friendship Leads to Marital Altar For WAged Dade County Couple; Reverend Bacon, Long Time Friend. Performs. Ceremony
WITH simple and impressive ceremony, the Reverend W. R. Russel, 79. pastor of the First Presbyterian church at Everton the past 38 years, and Miss Eva Appleby of Lock- wood were married yesterday afternoon at the Y. W. C. A. residence here.
Widely known throughout the Ozark region, the Reverend Russell Is be- loved by hundreds of persons with whom he has come in contact in the more than 50 years of his ministry. He has been preaching longer than any other minister ID the Ozark Presbytery. The bride, more than 20 years his junior, is pro:ninently known in Dade county for her church so- Urites. 8he is a member of the Metho- dist church at Lockwood.
The Reverend John T. Bacon, a friend of the Reverend Russell almost 30 years, performed the ceremony. Only a few triends of the couple were present. These meluded Miss Vida Garwood of Lockwood. a cousin of the bride, and the following tormer residents of Everton who have at- tended the Reverend Russell's church: Mia's Bertha Howard, house secretary of the Y. W. C. A. In. whose apartment, the ceremony was held; Mrs. John Likins. a member of the Springfields park board : Miss Mossle Holman and Mim Ona Da- ridson. both residents of the Y. W. C. A. and Lucile Morris.
