During the world war Mrs. Hughes was very active in Red Crome work. In March. 1918, while to Willard where she had gone to work at Red Cross headquarters, a violent windstorm blew her to the the aldewalk. Herthip was broken and from that time until her death Mra. Hughes was bedfast.


Funeral wervices will be held at the Willard Methodist church this afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev- erend Charles V. McGraw. pastor. will conduct the services. Burial will be In the Wesley cemetery un- der the direction of the Greenwade I'ndertaking company of Willard.

Mr, and Mrs. Robert Chambers, pi- oneer farmers' living near Competi- tion, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday. Eight children twenty-five grandchildren sod eight creat-grandchildren gathered, with friends of the aged couple to celebrate the golden anniversary.

WASHINGTON, March 22 - (A P ) Two enlisted men are dead. five auf- fered serieus burns and four etlleled men and one chief warrant officer suffered minor burns as a result of a gasoline explosion yesterday aboard the destroyer leader Whitney at Quantnamo Bay. Cuba.


The dead are Willlam Malvin Dele. rett. erstnan second class, 3406 Wind- Mill Road, Baltimore, and George Edward Garrett, maman first class. Omart. Mimourl.
