Robert Johnston, who sold the first Jota In Monett after fs incorpor- .ation. died last weck In Mooett.
Robert Johnston was born in Ber- wickshire. Lauderdale district in the southeastern part of Scotland, in 1858. He graduated from Medres college. St. Andrews, Scotland. This was the home of golf and Robert Johnston was a lover of the game as a student.
In the spring of 1870, with a party of people, he came to the United States and spent one year in Nebras- ka. He returned to Scotland for . short time, then in the spring of 1881. he came back to this country to take the position of agent for the Missouri Land company of Scotland. | which owned 130.000 acres in Barry i county. He secured this position through Willtam Goodlet, & promi- nent agriculturist of Scotland, who wa a promoter of-the land company.
Robert Johnston had his first of- fice in Exeter and later at Purdy. 1te was instrumental in selling thousands of acres of the Scotch land to the settlers of Barry county.
