Mr. Whinrey operated a drug store at Halltown and was active in village affairs. He was a member of-the-M. W. A. and the L. O. O. F. He Is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mra. Glady's Owens. William Thompson, retired Frisco brakeman, died at his home in Mo- Det.


Thompson was born at Centralia. III . January 16, 1866.


Mr. Thompson lived at Centralin until he was twenty-one years old. then went to Bptingfield to work fut tha Frisco as brakeman. He Was taught the work by Brakeman J. A. Amber. his life long friend. H C Sprinkle wu ble conductor and H. T. j Pipnell was baggageman on the marne Crew P. E. Merrill of Apringfield. was the superintendent. Mr. Thomp- son worked firat between Springfield and Halstead, Kan. Later he worked na the Eastern division as brakaman under James Manafield, conductor. until his retirement on pension from the railroad company.

Ozark Sailor Lost Life in Ex- plosion on Ship in Cuban Waters.


Funeral services for George Edward Garrett of Ozark, who was killed March 21 in a gasoline explosion on board the destroyer tender Whitney at Quantnamo bay, Ouba; were held this afternoon at the Ozark Baptist church.


Mr. Garrett enlisted In the United States navy two years ago, through the Springfield recruiting office. He was killed when a group of men were ventilating the cofferdam adjacent to the gasoline storage space and the fumes were Ignited from an unde- termined source, according to lhe re- port of the ship.


William Melvin Delevett of Balti- more was killed at the same time The men were severely burned and were removed to the hospital ship Mercy, where they died a few hours after the explosion

Services for Lawrence Ayres. 17. Minnie Hlouchin. 17, and Leona Mfouchin. 15. will be read by the Reverend F. A. Herndon, pastor of the First Baptist church, at 2:30 o'clock.

ERICK TURNQUIST DIES AT HIS HOME


Pioneer Minister of Swedish Baptista Expires After Brief Illness


The Reverend Erick Turnquist, 72, for many years a minister of the Baptist faith, working with Swedish Baptist congregations, died at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home, 781 College street, after brief Illness.


Mr. Turnquist was ordained Into the Baptist ministry in Springfield in 1884 and served as a frontier missionary in Texas for a period of


three years.


Funeral services will be con- ducted at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the First Baptist church. The Reverend L. H. Coffman will offl- ciate and burial will be in Mapie park cemetery under the direction of the W. L. Btarne Undertaking company.
