Sailor Fatally Injured on Ship As Intuition Had Told Her; Body To Be Returned to Home At Ozark


A MOTHER'S intuition warned Mira. Nell Garrett of Ozark of the catastrophe which had befallen her son, George E. Garrett, 19-year- old sailor. several hours before a cablegram telling of his death reached her.


Garrett died Wednesday evening nboard a U. S. hospital ship fol- lowing Injuries received in an cx- plosion a few hours previous aboard the destroyer tender Whitney, at Quantnamo, Cuba. He was doing navy serytet aboard the tender.

LA was recalled by relatives at Ozark that about the time the ex- plosion occurred Mra. Garrett told them - ahe had a premonition that disaster had overtaken her son. She told them that she had been uneasy about him for several days.

COMPETITION, Mo., March 24. -More than 100 relatives and frienda gathered at the home of Mr. and Hra. Robert Chambers on March 18 to join them In observing their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Chambers live alone on ons of the most spacious farma of Wright county. The farm is lo- cated on the Gasconsde river about one mile south of Competition.

Here they have lived for 17 years. They have reared a family of eight children, three sons and five daugh- tera. All the children have married and established homes for them- selves. Two of the sons with their families live on the farm near their father and mother.


Mr. and Mra. Chambers have 25 grandchildren anđ eight great grandchildren.


The day was spent in visiting with friends and loved ones. At noon the bountiful dinner was rerved and enjoyed by all.

Pioneer Ozarks Pastor Is Dead


THE Reverend . Duncan Cham- bera Milner, of Chicago, who held charges in "the: Ozarks region many years ago and ret- oran of the civil war, died at Mout Dora, Fa, after a linger- ing Ulness.


The Reverend Chambers, who was 87 years old,.was a pioneer in "Presbyterian work ind' . noted advocate of prohibition.


Death was caused by acute asthma.


Mr. Milner had been actively connected with the Presbyterian ministry 59 years and' at his death was pastor of the Armour mission, Chicago, and president of the Provident hospital and training school here. Hle work in behalf of prohibition and bet- ter morals carried him on speak- ing tours of the country. He was author of several short religious articles and of the books. "Lincoln and Liquor."


In the civil war he was a ser- ceant major and was wounded at Chickamauga.

WILLOW SPRINGS, Mo., March 14 .- Rev. J. F. Scherer, a former pastor of the Presbyterian church of Willow Springs, died at Tilla- mook, Oregon, after a short Doess. Rev. Scherer resided for a number of years at Willow Springs and was a power In his church. For a num- ber of years he was engaged in the - newwraper . business at Willow Springs, but disposed of his inter- este there when he went west.

Mrs. Attling had reached the huuse only a few momenta before and was seated near a bed when she pitched forward. She was dead when phy- siciana arrived.
