Gay Outing Ends . Tragically As Veteran ; Editor Dies of Sudden Heart Attack
Special Dispaleir:to The News. MARSHFIELD,: Mo. Aug. 6 .- T. H. Watters, 54, postmaster here and editor of the Marshfield Mail, died suddenly while on an outing with members of his family .this afternoon. 1+mlles fro 1 - Hazelgrech."-They were on the Gasconade river near Highway 66.
Mr. Watters with others in the group had been wading about in at allc 7 water. He crawled lato . boat and after . moment bent over as if-to wash his face and his head went under the water. Those with him thought he was hiding from the camera, for they were taking pictures. but when after a second he did not raise his head they went to him and found be was dead.
Heart Attack Blamed It wu thought he died of heart at- lack or apoplexy. He had not com-
plained of feeling ill and had never suffered an attack before.
Mr. Watters was prominently known throughout this section of the Ozarks. He came to Marshfield at the! age of seven and has spent most of 3 bis Me here He had been editor of the Marshfield Mall 20 years. He lived for a short time in Oklahoma and also in Fordiand. Rogersville and Rolla, He has been postmaster bere six years.
Mr. Watters was prominent in fra- ternal orders. He was a Mason and a. member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine in Springfield. He also was a member of the Commandery . In Springfield and of the Scottish Rite in Joplin. He belonged to the I. O. O. P. the Redmen. the Modern Wood- men, the Eastern Star and Rebekah lodges
Burial Plans Incomplete
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Ballard, Paul and Ralph; and four daughters, Mrs. Fay Lea. Misses Opal. Ocia and Floy Watters, all of Marshfield.
The body was removed to Marsh- field about 6 o'clock this afternoon. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending word from a brother of Mr. Watters in Red Wing. Minn.
Mr. Watters was the father of Miss Floy Watters, widely known in social circles in Springfield and Drury col- lege, where she graduated last June.
