Mrs. Daugherty had obtained the license Monday afternoon, ex- plaining that she and ber bus- band, who had been divorced last January after having lived to- gether more than 27 years, had , | decided to "make up."


"We didn't use this license." Mrs. Daugherty said. "I paid for it and I'd ilke to get my money back."

Civil War Veteran Had Been a Greene County Resident For Nearly a Century


Death last night claimed' one of Greene and Webster county's oldest citizens.


lle wne John S. M. Smith, 91 years old. Civil war veteran and a resident of Greene county since 1844. Mr. Smith died at the home of his daughter, Miss Lulu Smith, 1215 West avenue, following a lin- gering Illness.


When Mr. Smith came to Greene county from Kentucky, where he spent his early childhood, his fam- Ily lived on a farm in the eastern part of the county, Which later be- came Webster county.


Mr. Smith served in the 'Con- federate army under Marmaduke. He was a member of the Camp- bell Camp of the Confederate Vet- erana of the Civil war and of the Baptist church.


Mr. Smith lived at Henderson until 1906 when he came to Spring- field to make his home. While funeral arrangements have not been completed, It is known that the body will be taken to Hender- son for burial.


Ile is survived by two daughters, Mise Smith and Mre. J. L .. Barnard, hoth of Springfield: and two sons, Leon Smith, Venezula, South Ameri- ca. and D. C. Smith, Denamler, Cal.

Mrs. Daugherty . obtained marriage license . here Monday. afternoon, explaining that . she, and her husband, who had been divorced last January after hav- Ing lived together more than 27 yeare, had decided to rewed.


Wednesday, Mrs. Daugherty re- appeared at the office of Jack W. McKee, county recorder.


"We didn't' use this license," the said. "I paid for it and I'd like to get my money back."


When Mr. McKee explained that the money couldn't be re- funded. Mrs. Daugherty said she'd keep. it and left' the office. She told friends then that talk caused ty her application for the license had spolled the plans of her for- mer husband and herself to be inarried again.


But the ceremony was perform- ed last night at the home of Judge Trovathan, 411 South Mar- ket avenue, with their son. P. H. Daugherty, and a friend, Ma- mon Ray, as the witnesses.

FUNERAL services for Gegrgo M. Bebrig 66, veteran attorney who died .madenly: et, apoplexy Wednesday evening, will be con- ducted at 2130 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home, 631 Bouth Jefferson avenue


The Reverend John W. Person, pastor of St. Paul Methodist Epis- copal church, will officiate at the Sam Waar. Net Benton, E. A. Barbour, Arthur W. Wallen, Harold Pierce and Matthew Galt will act as pallbearerd, end burial will be in Maple Park cemetery.


Word of Mr. Sebree's death did not reach his daughter, Mra. J. B. Bebree, until yesterday as she and her husband were preparing to leave Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for. the United States. Her husband has been stationed at a United States naval post at Guantanamo, and only recently was ordered to report at Kansas City. For the past month Mr. Sebree had antici- pated & viait by his daughter. 8he cannot reach Springfield In time for the funeral services.
