THE STOUGHTON FAMILY.


ch. - total, 198. Iler gd .- s., Mr. JouN P. Srovcirox of Perkinsville, Vt., resides (1892) in the house wh. her husband Nathaniel built, and of which he writes, "and he built better than he knew. The clapboards are shaved and put on with hand- wrought nails, the ground timbers are black ash and still sound. 1 had it leveled up and the S. end new clapboarded and painted - the original color - red. Some of the original windows are still good. The barn, which was built before the house and while they were living in the log-house, I have, in still good repair. There is a majestic elm. over 100 years old, near the house, which was saved from the orig. inal forest for a shade tree."
