STRONG. [The family originally located in Shropshire, Eng .. one of its members m. an heiress of Grillith, Co. Caernarvan, Wales, whither he rem. 1545. Richard Strong, by tradition a Roman Catholic, was of this branch of the family, and b. in Co. Caernarvon, 1561; rem., 1590, Taunton, Co. Somerset, Eng., where he dl. in 1613. at a great age, leaving a son John, then 8 years of age, and a daughter Elea- nor. The name is stated in one record to have been orig. MeStrachan, and to have passed through various gradations, Struken, and Strong.]
John,* b. in Taunton, Eng., in 1605; rem. to London; thence to Plymouth, Eng. ; and, 1630, formed one of the Warham Co. which settled Dorchester, Mass. He was ap- companied by his sister Eleanor (who m. Walter Deane, tanner, of Taunton, and previously of Taunton, Eng.) and his wife and inf. child, both of whom died soon / after landing. In 1630 he m. (2) Abigail (dau. John) Ford; in 1635 was at lling- ham, Mass., and became a freeman at Boston, 9 Mch., 1636; in Dec., 1638, was an inhab. of Taunton, and a freeman of the Plym.
