Joseph came to W. from Dorchester (poss., as Savage suggests, from Cambridge), prob. about 1637. "April 3, 1639, the wife of Joseph Clark died " (O.C. R.); owned kl. at W. (see p. 153, Vol. I.) He made his will 1640, leaving property to two minor children (numamed), and (9. C. R.) died and was buried 14 Apl., 1641. No wife is mentioned in his will; but these children were Joseph and Mary, both baptized (according to 0. 7. 22.) 30 Sept .. 1638. This son Joseph died 2 May, 1659 (0. f. * The possibility of a relationship between this HENRY and Hon Daniel of Windsor, and John " Esq .. in his will gives a son the lot which had belonged to his (George's) brother Daulet. He mentions his brother John. He also speak of property in Great Munden, England, given him by his brother Edward, to dispuse of to his (George's) children and grandchildren. Concerning other property there, he says: 'I understand that Mr. Whiting hath not finished with my brother Daniel clarke: if he gets the land I do give it to my son, John ( larke,' Who was this . DANIEL CLARKE,' who took up land in Milford, which he apparently never orenpied? It would seem probable that he was at the time in this country. We may believe that Mr. Whiting, then a merchant in England, took charge of the property there to transfer it to the heirs in this country, and that he was trying to make an arrangement with the brother Daniel " which would secure an additional part to George Clarke. No Dar iel Clarke appears in Connecticut at that carly period except Hon. Daniel of Windsor. Was he the ' brother Daniel's There are coincidences which make it probable. George Clarke is found in Milford in 1.39, the same year that Daniel Clarke came to Windsor with his uncle, Rev, Mr. Hvit. John Clarke, Esq., who had been previously in Cambridge, Mass., for some years, was in the first division of land- at Hartford in 1630. George nud Daniel Clarke had vach children named Mary, Elizabeth. Sarah, Hannab, and John, nearly in the same order. Daniel Clarke's son John repeated all these names, George and Daniel had each a sim and grandson named Samuel. George's brother, John Clarke, E-q , had children named Elizabeth, Sarah, und John. Only a person who has studied old genealogies can understand how much evidence of family rela- thisship is afforded by a use of the same baptismal names. The coincidence is also to be noticed that both Hon. Danhel and George, Esq., were among the patentees of Connecticut so, also, was HENRY ( LARKE, Whocame to Windsor about the time that Daniel did, and he may have been another brother. He left no children, and gave his property to lieirs of other names, perhaps a sister and her children: he mentions no brothers, There in. therefore, no evidence of relationship between him and any of the other "'larkes."

Ct., 1668; is first ment. on N. records 29 Mch., 1664, in an agreement with Lieut. William Clark about land. The Hist. Dorcluster says " he was a man of great energy and a devoted friend of the regicide judges, Golfe and Whalley; while they were in this country they res. in his neigh- borhood." V. Rer. give: "Invent. 26 Dec., 1690, est. of Major Cooke, der'd, taken by Jona. Hunt and Joseph Parsons; house and homestead; about 300 acres in llart- ford Colony: 1 parcel land in Windsor; Noah Cooke is Ex'r to Est, of his father, Maj. Cooke."
C'apt. Cooke was a man of mark in W., as elsewhere; is ment. Col. Rec., pp. ST. 118, 155. 2442. 216, 309, 314, 317. llis military carcer seems to have commenced in W .. for 21 May. 1653, Leftenent Cooke was app. Commander in Chief of the 65 sol- diers drafted out of the 10 Conn. towns, on a requisition of the Commissioners of the United Colonies, for a war against the Dutch, Windsor having the second larg- est number of men; and 25 May, 165, " Leftement Cooke was chosen Captayne at Windsor; he had 87 papers [votes]; only 19 for others." Sept. 1, 1656, he was or- dered by the Town to beat the drum on Lord's amt lecture-days, from the top of the meeting-house, for which he was to have 20x for the next year.
In March, 1657 -8, he was one of the listed persons for troopers, and presented by Maj. John Mason as " Captain Aaron Cook " of W. He was the owner of The Com- plote Boly of the Int Military, by Lieut. Col. Richard Elton, pub, in Eng., 16-19, which volume he left, by will, to his son, the second Capt. Aaron, to whom, as a marriage portion, he had given his dwelling-house and laud on Sandy Bank, in W .. and which Aaron, Jr .. in 1664, deeded to John Maudsley.
In 1687, Gov. Andros madde Capt, Cooke a major (then the highest military office in Mass.), and, after Andros's fall, he was again captain. In 1653, he was one of the County Court who sat at Springfield, upon the case of Mary Webster, "under strong suspicion of having familiarity with the devil," or using witchcraft -a case afterwards referred to the Ct. of Assistants, at Boston, and which resulted in her acquittal.
The valiant Captain, as appears from frequent mention in the W. Pourn Rec., was a great hunter of wolves, Hed, at Northampton, 5 Sept., 1690, a. 80.
