Ell., 6 Sept., 1875. He grad. Y. C. 1810, where he received his first permanent religious impressions, and with thw College Church he united. He studied theology at Andover Seminary, where he graduated 1813, was ordained and settled over the First Congregational Church in Coventry, Conn .. Sept. 20, 1815, and served it faithfully and acceptably until his dismissal, on account of ill health, 20 Mich., 1844. The church at the time of his settlement was small and unhappily divided, but, with the co-operation of a few strong and fervent members, thirty-six persons were added to the church by profession during the first year of his pastorate, sixteen the next. In 1823 there was a revival, which added nearly a hundred; another in 1828, and others in 1829, 1831, 1834, and 1838. Mr. Booth's education was thorough and exact; his manner grave, dignified, and sincere, -ever watchful over his feelings and over his lips, although eminently social in his disposition; he enjoyed the confidence and esteem of his people in a high degree. He died in South Coventry, Conn., 24 May, 1851. His memory was honored by a sermon, preached at South Coventry, May 26, 1851, by his successor, Rev. Charles Hyde, and after- wards published. Mr. Bowe was editor of the Monark Times and Herkimer Journal, and advocated aboli tion of slavery far in advance of his neighbors. He resided in Herkimer, N. Y .; afterward in N. Y. city, where he d. 6 Mch., 1859. He was buried at East. Wind- sur Hill, Coon. An obituary notice in the Sur York Sun of 7 March, 1859, says:

THE BOWER FAMILY.
" Mr. Obadiah A. Bowe, for some time past connected with the editorial depart- ment of The Sun, died yesterday afternoon at his residence on Third avenue. Mr. Bowe was a native of Vermont, and was a fellow apprentice to the printing busi- ness with Mr. Horace Greeley, of The Tribune. The friendship then founded was never interrupted, and it was through Mr. Grecley's representations of the experi- ence and personal worth of his friend that he became, about three years ago. con nected with our office. . Mr. Bowe has been connected with the American press, as printer and publisher and in other capacities, for over thirty years. As a newspaper publisher he was not fortunate, probably because of his want of keen business habits, and his conscientious advocacy of views which were in advance of the times. He was a man of genial disposition, of fine literary faste, and an ardent, inflexible advocate of what he believed to be right and just."
