Bissell of W. An anecdote of Mr. Elisha M.'s courage is still extant and undoubtedly authentic : A party of British officers were stationed at W., and, on a convivial occasion at one of the vil- lage inns they became exceedingly uproarious and abusive; and, to crown all, hav- ing marked a circle upon the floor, they declared that whoever dared to cross the line should be a dead man. Their conduct became so outrageous that the constable was finally summoned; and, on his appearance, Mr. Moore was threatened with death, if he entered the circle. Without delay he stepped over the line, and. "in the name and by the authority of the King," made them prisoners and quelled the disturbance - a deep ent in his three-cornered hat testifying, however, to the peril he had risked in the discharge of his duty; he d.
