FRENCH-INDIAN WAR RECORDS.

French-Indian War Records. While these volumes having been passing through the press, a most interesting and valuable discovery of muster and pay rolls of Con- necticut troops in the French and Indian wars was made by Judge SHERMAN W. ADAMS, of Wethersfield. These valuable documents had been for three generations in the keeping of the Seymour family of Hartford; but, until the settlement of the estate of the late Governor Thomas H. Seymour (to whom these papers had descended from his grandfather Thomas S., associated with Chief Justice Oliver Ellsworth on the Continental Pay-Table Committee), their whereabouts was unknown. They are now being carefully examined, repaired, and prepared for reference use, and will soon be placed among the archives of the State in the State Library ; so that it will be possible for every Connecticut man to trace the military ante- cedents of his ancestors who served in the "old colonial" wars.

Mrs. Erskine of New Britain, Conn., was Louise Abbe, and a lineal desc. of Capt. Thomas Abbe. Her father was Simeon, and had a brother named Westmin- ster, and it is thought the two were sons of this Simeon whose birth is ree. (as above) on E. W. Rec. The Chase family of W. Pt., were also of the same line.

[The Northampton Prob. Rees., embracing for a time the town of Enfield, re- veal but little concerning the family of Abbe. The will of Thomas Abbe, dated 12 Oct., 1720, mentions sons Thomas and John, daus. Sarah Geer and Tabitha War- ner. The will of Obadiah Abbe (Vol. V, p. 121), mentions wife Sarah, " cousin Thomas Abby, son of my bro. Thomas Abby, dec'd"; sons of cousin [i. e., nephew ] Thomas Abby, cousin [nephew ?] John Abby, and his s. John Abby. Vol. V, p. 123 .- 13 Feb., 1732/3, Thos. Abbe of Enf. is app. guardian to Obadiah and Thomas Abbe of Enf., his sons and heirs of Obadiah Abbe of Enf., dec'd; idem, p. 124- John Abby chooses his father, John, to be his guardian. Before the close of the War of the Rev., Obadiah Abbe grants the use of certain land in E. W. to Capt. Thomas Abbe (Land Rec., Vol. II). I have seen signatures which prove that this Capt. Thomas Abby of Enf. and E. W., of famous in prose and poetry, was one and the same man (sce Htfd. Co. Mem. Ilist., Vol. II, pp. 117, 148; also, Vol. I, p. 686-7 of this hist., and Vol. II, p. 285). The Hannah Abbe who m. (1) Thomas Geer; (2) Noah Phelps, and with her second husband moved to E. W. (see Vol. II, p. 595), was probably his sister .- Ruth T. Sperry. }
