ALLEN and ALLYN. Ancient Windsor held thre distinct families of this name, one of Allen from Enfield, and mostly confined to East Windsor, and two of Allyn, one of Scotch and one of English origin. Much difficulty has been experi- enced in the disentanglement and arrangement of these Allen families, owing to the frequent disregard of orthographical correctness displayed by town clerks, grave- stone cutters, and not infrequently by the individuals themselves, as to the spelling of the name.
