POMPEO, GIOVANNI-Conductor, Composer, Arranger, Director Studio of Musical Art-Symphony Chambers, 246 Huntington Ave., Boston. Born Sonnino, Rome, Italy. Son of Antonio Pompeo and Luigia Albano. Studied music in Italy. Came to America in 1922, settling in Boston, where he has since been teaching piano and voice. Formerly teacher of music at Phillips Andover Academy. Has conducted concerts at Boston Symphony Hall; Jordan Hall; Boston Opera House; Springfield Auditorium and other places throughout the state. In 1936 he conducted the premiere of "Il Maestro di Musica" Opera Buffa, in two acts being the bicentenary commemoration of the author Gianbattista Pergolesi. On May 26, 1940, Maestro Pompeo conducted a Premier of his own work, symphony "Resur- rectio." Began to study piano under his father at the age of seven. At eight he was guest artist with Pompeo's symphony in the Boston Symphony Hall, when he was baptized by musical critics as the "Little Paderowski" of America. PORCELLA, LOUIS J. F .- Proprietor of Porcella Accordion Shop, 193 Hanover St., Boston. Born Montoggio, Genoa, Italy, March 13, 1882. Son of Felice Porcella and Teresa Gavuglio. Was brought to America in 1886 and educated in the Boston Public Schools. Learned the trade of making accordions from his father, who had come to America in 1878, and had established the first accordion shop in Boston in 1880. He was an out- standing accordionist and inventor of the brass mechanism in accordions. On his retiring from business in 1932, his son, Louis, succeeded him and has since been engaged in that field, being among the few in America to build accordions by hand and the first in the world to introduce aluminum plates in accordions. Graduated from Uxbridge graded and high schools, and Suffolk University Law School in 1921, L.L.B. In general practice of law in Uxbridge and Whitinsville since 1921. Veteran U. S. Army World War I; Director and Attorney, Uxbridge Cooperative Bank; Attorney for Blackstone National Bank; one of the inc. of Uxbridge Savings Bank; served on town finance committee for six years. Member: selective service board; secty. perma- nent war membership committee; former commissioner of Industrial Acci- dent Dept .; member of American Legion, Rotary Club, Eagles, Elks, "40 and 8", N. E. Order of Protection, and Italian American Club. Active in civic and political affairs. Married Jeanette Van Eynde of Re- vere, April 26, 1924. Attorney Prestera's father who came to America in 1902, was among the pioneer Italian settlers of Uxbridge. Had the following children: Frank, Nicholas, Anthony, Mary and Jioviana. PREVITALI, MARIO LEONE-Proprietor of Rip Van Winkle Restau- rant, 611 North St., Pittsfield. Born Capizzone, Bergamo, Italy, Nov. 22, 1883. Son of Joseph Previtali and Eufenia Fontana. Educated in the elementary and high schools in Martinengo, Italy. Came to America in 1903, settling in Boston, where he worked as chef in several hotels. In restaurant business in Pittsfield since 1929. Former chef at Hotel Wen- dell for seven years. Married Mary Duchini of Boston, Nov. 14, 1909. Children: Vivian Josephine, graduate of Pittsfield High School and St. Rose College of Albany N. Y., employed at U. S. Employment Dept. of Pittsfield since 1939; and Richard, graduate of Pittsfield High School, now in U. S. Army. Member: Elks, International Steward Assoc., Chef De Quesine of America Assoc. Has two brothers in New York, Dante and Leone, and a sister, Mrs. Pedritto Gabalio of Sagno, Switzerland. Res .: 389 Cheshire Rd., Pittsfield.

Children: (late) Mary; Anthony, asso- ciated with his father in business, is in U. S. Marines; Albert Jr .; Joseph and Robert. Mr. Previte is member of Florists Telegraph Delivery Asso- ciation, Eagles, and Elks. Fond of hunting, fishing, the study of law, art, travel and music. His father came to America in 1900. Married Angelina Basile of Lynn. Children: Anthony, Rose, Joseph, and Domenic Jr. Mr. Previte is fond of all sports. Active in civic affairs. His father was born in San Pier Niceto, Messina, Italy.
