At the age 17 he enlisted in the Italiam Army and served for three years as custom house officer in Leghorn. Later he became travelling firm representative, and travelled in many parts of Europe and North Africa. In 1930 he came to America settling in Gloucester, where he has since been engaged as fisherman. Married Santina Palmisano of Gloucester, Nov. 24, 1932, a graduate of Gloucester High School. They have one daughter, Angelina Lorraine, born July 23, 1934. Member of St. Peter's Club. Fond of football, auto races, and swimming. Has a brother, Albert who is in the barber business in Gloucester. Res .: 25 Church St., Gloucester.


BERTONE, PASQUALE FIORE-General contractor, Worcester. Born Brienza, Potenza, Italy, Oct. 24, 1893. Son of Domenico Bertone and Car- mela Adobbati. Educated in the elementary and high schools of Salerno. Came to America in 1912 settling in Worcester. In the painting and dec- orating business since 1912. Married the late Nunziata D'Elia of Worces- ter, May 30, 1917. Children: Carmela, graduate of High School of Com- merce and of Simmons College, a graduate nurse, married to Samuel Suriehinger; Mary, graduate of High School of Commerce; Elvira, grad- uate of High School of Commerce and of Alma College of Chicopee, Mass. Member: Order Sons of Italy; Italian American Citizen's League; local Union 148 for 30 years and Wachusett Country Club. Mr. Bertone is a former musician and organized the Worcester Royal Band. His father visited America in 1893. Had the following children: Giovannina, Marian- nina Carmelina and Concettina. Res .: 9 Larken St., Worcester.

BERTORELLI, ROSE-Public School Teacher. Born Milford July 7, 1897. Daughter of Luigi Bertorelli and Lena Macini. Graduated from Milford High School in 1916 and Framingham State Teachers College in 1918. Teacher at George E. Stacy School of Milford since 1918. Member: national and local teachers associations; Companions of the Forest of America; and Daughters of Italy Lodge. Fond of art, music, literature. Her father was born in Gravaggo, Parma, Italy. Came to America in 1888, was among the pioneer Italian settlers of Milford, where he married Lena Mancini in 1896. Was quarry worker. Had the following children: Rose, Edward, Mrs. Mary Bianchi, Arthur, in U. S. Army; Helen, graduate of Milford High, and attended Burdette College; Eunice, manager of Filene's Beauty Salon of Wellesley; Louis, graduate of Milford High, in U. S. Army. BERTUCCIO, GEORGE EARL-Assistant Vice-president, Northern Di- vision, Associated Transport Inc., 429 Memorial Ave., West Springfield. Born Waterbury, Conn., Aug. 20, 1888. Son of Peter Bertuccio and Mary Cervasco. Education: Bradford High School, 1905; special courses, Morse Telegraph and Business School. With N. Y. N. H. and H. R. R., Boston and Maine R. R., for many years. He started Byrolly Transport Co. in 1924, merging in 1938 with McCarthy Freight System. In 1942 this com- pany with seven other concerns formed the Associated Transport Inc. Married Louise M. Byrolly of Waterbury, Conn., April 26, 1921, an out- standing artist. Her paintings have been exhibited at Conn. Academy of Fine Arts, Westfield Atheneuum, and So. End City Library. Children: Robert Charles, a graduate of Philipps Andover Academy, student at Harvard, now purser in U. S. Merchant Marines; Mary Louise, a graduate of Abbot Academy, now student at Vasaar College, holding golf champion- ship for two years; Elizabeth Jane, a graduate of Abbot Academy, vice- president of her graduating class, now attending college. Member: Elks, K. C. and all traffic clubs of New England. Mr. Bertuccio's parents were born in Cicagna, Genoa, Italy. Came to America in 1885, settling in Waterbury, Conn., among first Italian Americans in the fruit field. Res .: 63 Park Edge Ave., Springfield.
