Attended public schools in his native town. Came to America in 1907 settling in Brockton, where he worked as shoe worker for Thompson Bros. Shoe Co. and others. In Italy he was a travel- ling merchant. In the baking business in Brockton since 1920. Married Candelora Merolle, Dec. 28, 1888, a native of Goriano Sicoli, Italy. Chil- dren: Late William, who was married to Giacinta Colaprete; Ida, married to Achille Ferrini; Gemma, married to late Robert Di Benedictis; Gino, manager of Superior Baking Co., is married to Florence De Napoli; Ralph, associated in the business, is married to Iola De Salve; and James, also associated in the business, is married to Vera De Salve. Graduated from East Boston High School in 1931 and from Kansas City University School of Medicine in 1938, M.D. Interne at Chicago Hospital, Lakeside Post Gradu- ate Hospital, Holy Family Hospital of New York and Adelphi Hospital of Brooklyn, N. Y., where he was resident physician and surgeon. In general practice in East Boston since 1940. Married Julia Vena of Boston, Sept. 28, 1933. One daughter-Joan, born Aug. 3, 1939. Graduated: Regis High School of New York in 1922; Fordham College in 1926, A.B., cum laude; Harvard Medical School in 1930, M.D., cum laude. Interne at Truesdale Hospital of Fall River, Boston City Hos- pital, and New York Post Graduate Hospital. In general practice in New- ton, 1933-39. Since 1939 has specialized in obstetrics and gynecology. On staff of Boston City Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Newton Hospital. Instructor in clinical obstetrics at Boston University, Tufts Medical School and Harvard Medical School. Married Elaine Poirier of Somerville, May 1, 1935. Children: Joseph D. Jr., Daniel A., Elaine Gabrielle, Ann and Susan.
