Son of Josephine Melillo, an accomplished pianiast, and of Giacomo Belizia, a self taught violinist and composer. Educated at East Boston High, where he organized the first orchestra in the school's history, and attended Tufts College. Began to study music at age of eight, culminating with full course at N. E. Conservatory of Music. Pianist and arranger with Metropolitan Theater orchestra for number of years under Fabian Sevitsky, the conductor of Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. In 1937 he became head of WEEI music arrangements dept. Since 1941 has been musical director, preparing the scores for such shows as WAAC Caravan, touring New England's 37 major cities, "The Rowdy Revue," "Musically Yours," "Coffee Club," etc. His recent achievement, is a musical score composed for the "Ballad of Embarkation," has caused considerable favorable comment. In addition he plays the Hammond organ and the Novachord on several other WEEI programs. Fond of radio, receives enjoyment impartially from the great masters down through to boogie-woogie, and up-to-date jive. Hobby: playing the bassoon, and construction and destruction mechanical work shop in basement of his home. Married to Mary E. Hunter of Arlington. One son Francis E. Children: Virginia, graduate of Dramatic School of Boston, married to Dudley Murphy, a film producer-writer at Holly- wood, and Lincoln Vincent, graduate of Vermont Academy and Lincoln, Nebraska, Military School, in U. Dr. Benaglia's maternal grandfather, Joseph Carabbio, came to America with his brother, Stephen, landing in Boston. Came to America in 1892 settling in Springfield. Married late Maria Pezzini of Springfield in 1899. Children: Mrs. Florence Malagudi and Harold Ralph, milk salesman, both of Springfield. Mr. Bencivenni is among pioneer Italian American settlers of Springfield, where he has worked at various occupations for 50 years including 18 years with Royces Laundry Co., and 17 years with Great Atlantic and Pacific Co., as store manager.
