Spent one year as traffic officer and nine years in plain clothes squad. First officer in the Commonwealth to get conviction on straight arson cases, and was allowed special superior court term in July before Judge E. Qua. Was given special assignment one year after he was appointed. Considered among the most outstanding in the Brockton Police Dept. Married Mary Ames of North Easton June 22, 1923, graduate No. Easton High. Children: Patricia Rose Ames, graduate Brockton High and Bridgewater Teachers College; Gregory A., in U. S. FURCOLO, CHARLES L .- Surgeon. Born Sant'Angelo All'Esca, Avel- lino, Italy, May 29, 1889. Son of Pasquale Furcolo and Maria Josephine Iannini. Graduated from Yale University School of Medicine in 1910, M.D. House surgeon at Mercy Hospital 1911-12; asst. surgeon Wesson Memorial Hospital 1912-26, privileged surgeon since 1926. Senior surgeon Mercy Hospital since 1925; neuro-surgeon at Westfield State Hospital since 1937. Founder and director of his clinique. Appointed to local draft board 142 by Saltonstall. Member A. M. A. Mass. Medical Soc., Elks, K. C., Berkshire Hunt and Country Club. Author-"Architecture," "Surgery of the Sym- pathetic System of the Upper Extremities." Co-author-"Relapsing Agra- nulocytosis." Married Alberta Marie Foster of New Haven, Nov. 28, 1908. Two sons: Charles L. Jr., one of editors of Forbes Magazine of New York; and Foster, a lawyer, is Lt. in U. S. Marine Corps. FURGIUELE, JOSEF-Pianist, Composer, Musical Coach. Born Fall River, Feb. 12, 1896. Son of Peter Furgiuele and Stella Mazza. Graduated, Royal Conservatory of Naples, majoring in piano and composition. Settled in New York City in 1925. Assistant to Pasquale Amato. Coach of numer- ous operatic stars including Frigierio, Castagna, and Costantino. Considered among the most outstanding in the field of musical coach. Married Mary Pasca, operatic singer of New York. His late father, a skillful blacksmith, was born in San Pietro, Cosenza, Italy. Came to U. S. in 1884, was among the pioneer Italian settlers of Fall River and the first Italian to enter the baker business. Had the following children: Joseph; Rose Marie, teacher at Henry Lord Jr. High; Caroline, with Hurst's Publishers of New York; Frank, at New Port Torpedo Station; Ann, graded school teacher; Eve, pro- prietor of Hobby Knit Shop; Adam, a graduate of New York University, supervisor of music at Vermont Junior College, in U. S. Army Air Corps special service; Virginia, in U. S. Marine Corps; Albert, Lieutenant U. S. Army Air Corps; Peter Jr., Captain U. S. Army; and Stella, all of whom are graduates of Durfee High School. Res .: 1031 Bedford St., Fall River.


FURNARI, SAM JOSEPH-Proprietor, Jackson Beauty Salon, 13 Apple- ton St., Lawrence. Born Lawrence March 7, 1916. Son of Salvatore Fur- nari and Natalie Sambataro. Educated in the Methuen Public Schools. Learned the art of cosmotologist in Boston. In business since Jan. 1, 1940, possessing the finest and most up-to-date beauty salon in Lawrence. Asso- ciated with Mr. Furnari are his two brothers-Frank and Anthony. Served in American Army World War II. Honorably discharged in 1943. Member: Mass. Cosmotologist Association, American Legion Italian World War Vet- erans. Fond of horseback riding, sailing, flying, travel and music. His parents were born in Santa Maria di Licodia, Catania, Italy. Came to America in 1912 settling in Lawrence. Had the following children: Joseph, former student of M. I. T., mechanical engineer with Bethlehem Steel Corp .; Sam J. of this sketch; Frank; and Anthony. Res .: 190 East St., Methuen.
