SULLO, SALVATORE-Concert pianist. Born Boston, Feb. 7, 1913. Son of Salvatore Sullo and Lena DeMinico. Educated in Boston, Italy and France. One of the most brilliant pupils of Rossomandi, former conductor of symphony concerts at Teatro San Carlo, in whose class at Naples Conservatory he won the Scarlatti prize at age 15. Later studied in Paris with Cortot. Following his successes in Italy, where he concertized exten- sively and performed as soloist with leading orchestras, he toured Bel- gium, Holland, Poland, Hungary and Germany, where critics and public acclaimed him one of the most outstanding pianists on the concert plat- form. Mr. Sullo's father was born in Torre LeNocelle, Avellino, Italy, Feb. 10, 1870. Came to U. S. in 1893, settling in Boston as practical extract chemist. Educated here and abroad. Came to America in 1901 settling in New York City, where he engaged in theatrical field. In Springfield since 1910, where he has been active as landscape and mural artist. Outstanding as an actor in English and Italian languages. In charge of his own Italian variety radio program since 1937, featuring classic music and readings in Italian and English. Employed for duration as inspector at Indian Motorcycle Co. Married Nella Corazzari of Plymouth, June 25, 1909. Children: Paul, a partner at Matteoli Restaurant; Olga (inspector at Boxton Co.); Carlo, Jr., of Clark University, now officer in U. S. Army Air Corps.
