S. he graduated from Wilfred Academy of Beauty Culture. In barber business in Cambridge since 1923. Married Anna Magnone of his native town in 1911. MALGERI, DINA D'ALTO-Organizer and leader. Born Canosa di Puglia, Bari, Italy, March 29, 1900. Daughter of Andrea D'Alto (a municipal consignee of Canova), and Eusapia Forina. Graduated from Victor Emanuel Liceum of Bari as teacher and assistant pharmacist. Came to America in 1921 settling in Boston. Organizer of "Religione e Patria" Club and Americanization classes at St. Leonard's Church. She acts as an interpreter, assists the needy, gives lessons in Italian and in citizenship. Her motto: to be a light bearer to the poor. Spent seven years in Chicago where she did social work in connection with the S. S. settlement and other activities. Member of Franciscan Third Order of St. Leonard's Church. Wife of late Prof. Francis P. Malgeri who was private secretary to Premier Francesco Crispi of Italy. Graduated from English High School in 1916 and took special courses in real estate and insurance at Boston University and Harvard. Served in U. S. Navy. In business since 1919. Married Katheryn Polachi, June 16, 1923, (daughter of Carlo Polachi, who came to U. S. in 1864. He settled in Worcester in 1866, was among the very first Italian settlers in the city). Children: Anthony J. Jr., graduate North High, attended Valley Forge Military Academy, now with U. S. Forces in Italy; Donald J., graduate St. John's High; and Danvers, student. Mr. Mallozzi was the first Italian American deputy sheriff in Mass. Served in Worcester City Council in 1922, and from 1930-36. He is trustee of the Bay State Savings Bank and one of the largest real estate operators in Worcester. National judge advocate, past president and now state commander of Italian World War Veterans. School of Designing, was 1st Lieut. pilot of the "Boston Blackie", reported missing with his crew; Philip, graduate Milford High, joined the U. S. Marines July 1942, was in So. Pacific 15 months, where he took part in two major battles "Bougainville", and "Guam" is a noted musician, will join his father in the lumber business after the war; William Robert, graduate Milford High, is in U. Came to America in 1891, settling in Boston, where he was in the fruit business for 12 years. In the fishing business since 1903. Among the first Italo-Americans in Boston to enter this field. Married the late Carmela Geraci of Boston in 1901. Married 2nd time Anna Geraci of Boston, Sept. 15, 1912. Mr. Mantia is fond of all sports especially baseball, bocce. A lover of music. MANTINI, MARIO-Violinist, Pianist, Musical Director W.C.O.P. of Boston. Born Naples, Italy, Aug. 25, 1903. Son of Carlo Mantini and Carolina Meo. Graduated with highest honors from Royal Conservatory of Music, San Pietro a Maiello, Naples, majoring in violin and pianoforte. Also taught at same Conservatory. Played under such noted conductors as Molinari and Serafini and gave recitals in principal cities of Italy. Chosen in 1923, by the Musical Federation, to give recital at Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory at Milan. Acclaimed by critics as among the most promising of violinists. Coming to U. S. in 1924, he became concert master for San Carlo Opera Co., of New York. Has since been associated with hotel and theatre groups, and has played under Harrison, Fabian Savitsky, Paul Whitman, and Rubinoff. Married to Caterina Severino of Boston, March 22, 1925. One son Carlo, graduate English High (presi- dent class '45) serving in U. S. Army in the Pacific. Mr. Mantini has two sisters living; Immacolata and Dolores. Res .: 2 Hardwick St., Brighton.

S. in 1906, settling in Boston. In the service of United Shoe Machinery of Beverly for over 20 years. Mar- ried Carolina Ciampa of Montefalcione, Italy, Jan .25, 1912. Children: Alfred, Joseph, Mario, Albert, Attilio-all of whom have attended High School, are veterans of the U. S. Army, European theatre, and holding same rating as sergeant. Alfred received the bronze medal for heroism in Italy; Albert, awarded the purple heart; Attilio and Mario, awarded the presidential citation. Mr. Manzelli's other children are: Concetta, graduate Practical Arts High School, married to Philip Leduc of the U. S. Army; Mary, defense worker, and George, graduate Brighton High. Lucania, Italy, in 1879. Came to U. S. in 1892 settling in Worcester, where he established the first Italian American grocery business in 1902. He died in 1918. The business has since been carried by his sons. Had the following children: Frank; Andrew, in candy business; Emily, grad- uate Worcester Teachers College, instructor at Girls Trade School; John, graduate Holy Cross College, and Boston College Law School; Albert, graduate Holy Cross College is on Board of Trustees of State Hospital and on Board of Tax Appeals, now Lt. U. S. Army; Arthur, graduate Holy Cross College, now Lt. in U. S. Army overseas; and Lucian, graduate Holy Cross College, now Captain in U. S. Army. Res .: 13 Worthington Ave., Shrewsbury, Mass.

Graduated from Lawrence High School in 1934 and took special automobile courses in other schools. Proprietor of Manzi Used Car and Service Station of 277 Broadway, Lawrence; The Show-Sheen Garage Inc. and Used Car Service of 247 Metheun St., Lawrence; and The Rendevous Dine and Dance of 34 Bates St, Metheun, with his brother, Sylvio. Formerly in the service of Smith Motor Co. of Lawrence, where he was a leading salesman and member of Chevrolet 100 Car Club for six years. Served in U. S. Navy and Ma- rines World War II, honorably discharged as staff sergeant. Member: American Legion; the Y. M. C. A. and Boston Gasoline Dealers Assoc. His father was born in Teano, Avellino, Italy. Came to America in 1907, settling in Lawrence. Had the following children: Philip, Salvatore, Thomas, Harry, Silvio and Mary. Res .: 7 Montgomery St., Lawrence.

Attended the Everett High School. Registered pharmacist since 1927. In the service of Whalen Drug Co. since 1934. Married Josephine Sapienza of Everett, Jan. 24, 1926. One daughter, Lucy Mary, born Oct. 29, 1926. Fond of baseball, fishing, traveling and music. His father, a native of Naples, Italy, was an accountant and active in civic affairs. He was a member of Order of Sons of Italy in America and grand venerable of the Independent Order of Sons of Italy. Res .: 33 Prescott St., Everett.

Attended Boston Col- lege and Suffolk University Law School. In the service of Lawrence Health Dept. since 1935. Married Rita Watson of Lawrence, Oct. 15, 1933, graduate of St. Mary High School and McIntosh Commercial School. Children: Rita Angela, Claire Marie, and Michael 3rd. Member: K. of C., and Italian American Association. Active in civic affairs. His father was born in Quindici, Avellino, Italy. Came to America in 1898, settling in Lawrence, where he engaged in real estate and restaurant business for over 35 years. Had the following children: Vincent, Ida, William, Flora, Albert, Lena, Marie, Sophie, Anna, Michael and Angela. Res .: 300 Ames St., Lawrence.
