DIAUTO, FRANK (late)-Wholesale and Retail Dealer in Coal, Hay, Grain, Fuel Oils and Building Materials, Randolph, Mass. Born in Salerno, Italy, Feb. 11, 1862. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Francisco Diauto. Came to U. S. in 1879, lived in New Bedford. In 1900, he began in the grain business in South Braintree. In 1908 he purchased the B. F. Hayden grain business of Randolph, later added the coal line. In 1916 added the building materials section. In 1929 he installed the large fuel tanks and also opened a branch known as the Braintree Coal and Grain busi- ness, which his son Dominic inherited and operates successfully, while Michael inherited the main business at Randolph. Mr. Diauto was married in Italy, to Lucia Appromollo. Had following 13 children: Fred; John; Dominic (veteran U. S. Army, World War I); Michael; Rose; Marguerite; Mary; Madeline, and Clara; deceased are: Charles, Frank Dominic and Nellie. Mr. Diauto was member of Boston Flour and Grain Exchange. In early life he learned to be independent and did not believe in partnerships. His business which began in a small way, grew before his untimely death, to be one of the largest in the state. He was deeply devoted to his family, contributed gladly to every worthy cause, helped hundreds of his countrymen to become useful citizens of our country. His father was born in Messina, Italy, is veteran of Italian Army World War I. Came to U. S. in 1917 settling in Boston, has the following children: Peter, a veteran U. S. DI CASTRO, ROSA LOUISE-Teacher of Piano, 54 Central Ave., Lynn. Born Stonington, Maine, March 21, 1909. Daughter of Angelo Di Castro and Vittoria Coguzzo. Graduated from Lynn English High School in 1928. Began to study music at the age of seven. Later studied piano in New England Conservatory of Music and in New York. Teacher of piano since 1935. Has presented numerous recitals, featuring piano duets and quartette ensemble. Miss Di Castro is also church organist and choir director at the Italian Church of Lynn. Her father was born in Gorga, Rome, Italy. Came to U. S. in 1900. Lived in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire and Lynn. Was an outstanding monumental stone cutter. Had the following two chil- dren: Rosa Louise; and William, who graduated from Lynn High and at- tended Wentworth Institute, is a violinist and orchestra leader, serving in U. S. Army overseas. DI CECCA, ANTHONY W .- Lawyer. Born Somerville, Jan. 24, 1907. Son of Camillo and Annunziata Di Cecca. Graduated: Somerville High School; Boston University School of Business Administration; Boston Uni- versity School of Law (1929 LL.B.). Admitted Mass. Bar in 1934 and Fed- eral Bar in 1935. City Solicitor under Mayor Knox. Took part in bringing about readjustment of insurance rates in Somerville and removal of blanket conflagration rate charge. First Italian-American to hold top legal post in Somerville. Has served as judiciary committee chairman in the Order Sons of Italy 1940-43, was member of its 1931 sports program, and played in their championship baseball team in Everett. Mr. Di Cecca was member of his High School baseball team, picked with McFadden and played with Gimpty, Hogan and other stars, who later joined the big leagues. Member: Alpha Phi Delta fraternity, Northern Artery and Winter Hill Italian Amer- ican Clubs. Active in civic and political affairs and deeply interested in every worthy cause.
