Graduated from Lawrence High School in 1923 and attended Lowell Teachers College for two years. Studied in Europe under Giorgio Falvo for five years. Graduated with honors from St. Peter's Royal Conservatory of Naples, Italy, in violin and viola. Played in concerts and theatres in leading cities in Italy. In the United States, he has given numerous concerts throughout New England. Critics speak of him as a violinist of merit, possessing the artistic touch and power of interpretation. PUZZELLO, FRANCESCO, D. S .- Musician and Music instructor in Newton public schools. Born Monterosso Calabro, Catanzaro, Italy, Jan. 24, 1897. Son of Joseph Puzzello and Antonia Polia. Attended public schools in Italy and served in Italian Army, World War I. Began to study music under his father and uncle (both bandmasters) later attended Instituto Provinciale of Catanzaro. Pupil of Francesco Mazzocca and Faust Griffo. At age of 14, he played at Eden, Bellini, and National theaters of Catanzaro. Came to U. S. in 1921, settling in Watertown. Studied at the New England Conservatory of Music, the clarinet, under Vannini and the saxophone, under Andrew Jacobson. Mr. Puzzello was musical director at Antilla Hotel of Coral Gables, Florida; played in Leo Reisman's orchestra, and travelled throughout U. S. and Canada with Keith circuit. Now playing at Hotel Statler of Boston. Has recently studied the Joseph Schillinger system composition and arranging. Author number of compositions. Attended public school in his native town, where he also studied clarinet and became a band musician. Came to U. S. in 1912. Was professional musician for over 30 years and played clarinet in many leading bands and orchestras throughout the U. S. Now in the employ of Boston Burial Case Co. of Somerville. Has also been foreman finisher for William Levines of Bos- ton for 15 years. Married Maria Di Maggio, Feb. 3, 1915, a native of Calvaruso, Messina, Italy. Children: Philomena, married Frank Martini; Salvatore, is in U. S. Army in the Pacific, married to Nina Favuzzi of Burlington; Nancy, a fancy dressmaker and Edward is in U. S. Army Medical Corps in the Pacific. All the children are graduates of Arlington High School. Mr. Raia is active in civic affairs. Has the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Giustina Serafina of Italy; Edward, proprietor of Eddy's Tailor Shop of Cambridge; Mrs. Elena Di Maggio of Cam- bridge and Roberto, a custom tailor designer in Italy. Possesses the largest and finest vegetable garden in the city, known throughout the state as the mushroom king. Also raised the largest hog in the history of Marlboro, weighing upward to 600 lbs. He was formerly with the local gas and light company for 18 years. Married Maria Giuseppa Ricci of Marlboro, July 28, 1912. Children: Josephine, married to Attilio Mauro; Albina, married to Ernest Mauro; Alfred, is associated with his father in the business, and Francis, is a student.
