Month before he wrote to his mother following lines: "Life is funny and we all try to battle against the obstacles that come our way. We resent any intrusion to our own peace and happiness, but I have adopted the philosophy that life signifies meeting every stumbling block that trips us and adjusting ourselves to the new situation. It is always readjustment to changing experiences. As for the war, we had to adjust ourselves to the personal problems it brought, and if a guy can't take it, then his life is a failure. That's why I am even not afraid of death. If I did one thing that in- dicated cowardness, the rest of my life would be miserable." Mr. Mar- tello's father was born in Lanciano, Chieti, Italy. Came to U. S. in 1914, settling in Franklin, died in 1919. His stepfather Nicholas, also Martello by coincident, took great interest in William's life, together with rest of the family.

Graduated from Instituto Cristoforo Colombo dei Missionarii Scalabriniani of Piacenza in 1934, where he also taught natural sciences and languages. Was ordained by Cardinal Carlo Raffaele Rossi of Rome, June 29, 1933. Father Mar- tellozzo came to America il 1934, settling in Boston, where he has since been in the service of Sacred Heart Church. Deeply interested in the welfare of his community. Director of Catholic Youth Organization and of Perpetual Novena in honor of our Lady of the Miraculous Medal of said church. Pioneer American of Italian descent in Springfield elected to City Council in 1914 and as Police Commissioner in 1919. Public adminis- trator since 1924. Royal Italian Consular Agent, 1935-39. President of Dante Club since 1942. In 1920 saved Antonio Teregno from electric chair, two hours before execution, most dramatic event. Taught Italian at Valparaiso University while a student. MASCHI, REV. PIETRO-Pastor, St. Tarcisius Church, Framingham. Born Ravarano, Parma, Italy, Aug. 15, 1879. Son of Angelo Maschi and Angela Magri. Graduated from Ginnasio-Liceo of Berceto. Studied The- ology in Piacenza. Ordained Dec. 19, 1903 by Monsignore Scalabrini of Piacenza. In America since 1904. Curate in New York, Boston, and Provi- dence. In Framingham since 1907, where he built the above church, cemetery and rectory. During his pastorate from 1907-1940, he has had 4,450 baptisms and 1040 matrimonies. He is member of Pia Society of St. Charles Barromeo. Has a brother Idlebrando in Framingham and a sister Mrs. Maria Maschi Venturini of Ravarano, Parma, Italy. MASCIANDARO, ENRICO - Proprietor of Harry's Shoe Service, 230 Harvard St., Brookline. Born Matera, Italy, March 20, 1903. Son of Nicola Masciandaro and Maria Teresa Lauria. Attended public school in his native town, where he also learned the custom shoe making trade from his grandfather. Came to U. S. in 1920, settling in Boston. In business since 1927. Married Victoria Leone of So. Boston Dec. 19, 1928, graduate of Girls' High School and attended New England Conservatory of Music, a former piano teacher for 22 years, who's pupils gave yearly recitals. She studied piano since six years old, considered outstanding in her field. Mr. Masciandaro's father, a jeweler in Italy, had the following children: Giuseppe, Marco, Francenzo, Antonio and Enrico. Educated in the Clinton public school and studied watch-making in Italy for five years. In business since 1936. Married Sybil Davis of Hudson, Mass., June 28, 1936. Children: William Warren, born July 19, 1937, and Carol Elaine, born March 12, 1941. Member: Rotary Club and St. Ann's Society. Fond of boating, swimming, fishing, travel and music. His father was born in San Martino sulla Marucina, Chieti, Italy. Came to America in 1902, settling in Clinton, where he engaged as travelling watchmaker. Son of Raffaele Masella and Petronilla Panella. Educated in the public schools of his native town. Came to America in 1901, settling in Boston. In restaurant business since 1930. Formerly in the coffee field. Married Maria D'Amore of Boston, Sept. 2, 1906. Children: Petronilla, Daniel (U. S. Army), Ralph (defense work at Navy Yard), Michael (a mechanic), Peter (Aviation Cadet Pre-Tech School of North Carolina), Jerry (U. S. Army, Staff Sergeant), Helen, Margaret, John J. Jr., Edward and Theresa, students. Mr. Masella is member of Order Sons of Italy in America. Fond of all sports. Lover of travelling and music.
