PICKNELLY, PETER-Proprietor, Peter Pan Bus Lines, Springfield. Born New York City, Oct. 15, 1891. Son of Carmin Picknelly (Picariello) and Florence Spagnuolo. Attended the public schools of East Orange, N. J. Later took special courses in automotive. In the service of Edison Phonograph Works for number of years and a private chauffeur for Aldis B. Squire of Orange, N. J. for 12 years. Entered the bus business in 1920, being the first to operate busses in Newark, N. J. and its suburbs. In 1924 he with others came to New England beginnig a more extensive bus operation with headquarters in Providence, known as Interstate Com- merce, operating between Providence and Hartford, Springfield to Provi- dence, extending to Pittsfield and Albany. In 1934 Mr. Picknelly severed his relation with said Co., and founded his own Company, known as Peter Pan Bus Lines, erecting his own Bus Terminal which is the most beautiful and modernistic of which Springfield can well be proud of. Operating between Northampton, Holyoke, Springfield to Boston via Stafford Springs, Conn., as well as local lines in Springfield and vicinity. The name of Peter Pan was conceived by Mr. Picknelly while reading Sir James Barrie "Peter Pan" book. His two children, Peter and Janet, so resemble the main characters in the fable that he adopted said name, and all his busses bear the name of the various characters contained in the novel. Married the late Helen Zimmerman in 1916. Children: Emily, a public school teacher and Helen a nun of the Order of St. Joseph's Mission in Pittsfield. PIERONI, JOSEPH (Late) - President and Proprietor of Pieroni's Hotel, Restaurants and Sea Grills in Boston. Born Barga, Lucca, Italy, May 18, 1875. Son of Enrico Pieroni and Assunta Da Prato. Educated in the public schools of his native town. Came to U. S. in 1889, settling in Boston. Began in the restaurant business in a small way in 1895. Later became the owner of the finest chain of restaurants in the bay state. Married Maria Arrighi of Philadelphia in 1913. Children: Mrs. Leonella Connella; Mrs. Giannina Antonietti; and Josephine. All Chil- dren were graduates of Mes Dames Sacred Heart College of Florence, Italy; Josephine, also graduated from La Petite Ecole and from Berlitz School of Languages. Mr. Pieroni was one of the best known business men in Boston, active in civic affairs and fond of travel and music. Died in Boston, Feb. 25, 1944. Address: 7 Park Sq., Boston.
PIERONI, GINO-District Court Officer, Brockton. Born Borgo a Moz- zano, Lucca, Italy, June 6, 1886. Son of Francesco Pieroni and Romilda Molinelli. Educated in the elementary and high schools in Italy. Came to America in 1905, settling in Brockton. District Court officer since 1937. Formerly Superior Court officer attached to district attorney for 15 years. Married Livia Franchi of Brockton, July 3, 1912, a native of Spezia, Genoa, Italy. One son Francis J., born Oct. 6, 1924, a graduate of Brockton High and attended Boston College, is pharmacist mate and a musician in the U. S. Forces. Mr. Pieroni is among the founders and ex-venerable of Columbus Lodge Order Sons of Italy; pres. of Giovanni Pascoli Society; Brockton Bocce Club Inc .; Plymouth County Republican Club and Notary Public since 1916. Is a former musician and played in theatres and orchestras for 20 years. Active in civic and political affairs. His father died in Italy. Mother came to U. S. A. in 1912, settling in Somerville. Formerly salesman at Jordan Marsh for seven years and spent two years in executive train- ing course for buyers. Later was buyer at the appliance dept. T. W. Rogers of Lynn. Married Marietta Muscillo of Boston, Aug. 22, 1937. Children: Loretta, born May 28, 1939 and Virginia, born March 13, 1941. Mr. Pierre is member of Mass. Ins. Underwriters Ass'n, and St. John Baptist Society. Taught golf in 1937. His father was born in Forenza, Potenza, Italy. Came to America in 1903, settling in Swampscott as land- scape gardener. Had the following children: Vito; Anthony F .; Carmine, U. S. Army; Mary; William, U. S. Army; and Alfred. Res .: 58 Pine St., Swampscott.
