One of the founders and incorporators, of the Home for Italian Children in Jamaica Plain and former director of Mass. Italian Historical Society. Together with her sister Louise have been engaged in assisting Italian immigrants and their children without remuneration. Daughters of Giovanni Battista De Ferrari, a native of Ferrada, Cicagna, Italy, came to U. S. as a young man in 1856 with his wife Caterina Lagorio, and brought up a family of nine children. He became prominent in the business world and established with his sons one of the largest and most successful business houses in Boston, the firm of G. B. De Ferrari & Sons, importers, wholesalers and retailers of foreign and domestic fruits and vegetables. He was member of various organizations and always ready to help his less fortunate neigh- bors, inculcating same desire in his children as a duty. Died in 1907 beloved and highly respected in the community for his many charities and high ideals. Address: 464 Harvard St., Brookline.

Began teaching at Catholic Uni- versity as Associate Professor in Classics in 1917, later Professor of Greek and Latin and head of that Department. While teaching at Catholic Uni- versity he undertook administrative work. Director of the Summer Session since 1929. Appointed Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 1930, remaining in that position until he was appointed Secretary General of the University in 1937. Her father was born in vicinity of Salerno, Italy. Came to America in 1890 settling in Worcester, where he engaged in the grocery business for over 30 years. Had the following chil- dren: Helen of above sketch; Frank, a graduate of High School of Com- merce, a salesman; Esther, a graduate of North High School (honor stu- dent) and from Mass.
