Member: Everett City Council 1922-26 and president in 1925; bail commissioner since 1924; acting mayor of Everett in 1925; assistant assessor in 1926; fire commissioner 1933-34; past venerable Order Sons of Italy in America and past exalted ruler of Everett Lodge of Elks. Deeply interested in civic affairs. Fond of football, baseball, boxing. Married Helen Margaret Zola, an attorney, of Revere, Oct. 12, 1931. Two children: John J. and Eleanor Virginia. Mr. Rocco's father was born in Serino, Avellino, Italy. Came to U. S. in late 80's, settling in Boston. Res .: 70 Revere St., Everett.


ROCCO, JOSEPH (Late)-Born Everett. Son of Orazio Rocco and Vin- cenza Cerino. Graduated from Everett High. Representative of the John Hancock Insurance Co. for number of years, and was most successful in that field. Served in the Everett City Council for five years, president for two years. Member of the Elks, K. of C., and Order Sons of Italy. Very active in civic and political affairs. Worked untiringly for the great good of his community and state, regardless of race, creed or politics. Was. considered among the most outstanding Italo-American citizens in the state, whose funeral in 1934 was the largest ever held in the history of Everett.


ROCCO, SALVATORE - Funeral Director and proprietor of Rocco Funeral Home of 319 Broadway, Everett, Mass. Born Boston, Feb. 8, 1897. Son of Orazio Rocco and Vincenza Cerino. Educated in the ele- mentary and high schools of Everett. Funeral director since 1927. Mar- ried Grace Fiorentino of Everett, Sept. 6, 1917. Children: Virginia, Hor- ace, Henry, Richard, and Grace. Mr. Rocco entered politics in 1918 and has served in the city council, 1919-20, 1934; president in 1935 and 1940. Reelected 1938 to 1945. Member: Board of Public Welfare 1922-26; member and treasurer of Everett Lodge Sons of Italy in America; St .. Anthony Society; B. P. O. E .; Veterans Firemen Ass'n and American Funeral Directing and Embalming Ass'n. Deeply interested in every worthy cause. His father, a native of Serino, Avellino, Italy, came to. In business since 1925. Also proprietor Everett Sq. Taxi. Married Josephine Guarino of Brattleboro, Vt., Sept. 6, 1925. Children: Horace Joseph, graduate Everett High, was captain of football team and four letter man, veteran U. S. Army as pilot, became Lt. at age 19, is student at Harvard; Joseph, graduate Everett High, also four letter man, and Anthony, a. student. Mr. Rocco is active in civic affairs. Fond of all sports. Lover of travel and music. His father was born in Serino, Avellino, Italy. Came to U. S. in the late 80's settling in Boston in wholesale beverage business for 40 years. He was one of the most oustanding Italo-American citizens in Mass. Contributed largely for the welfare of his people and of the. state.
