Mr. Rugo's father was born in Tramonti di Mezzo, Belluno, Italy. Came to U. S. in 1899, settling in Boston, where he established his contracting business, now carried on by his sons. At age of eight went to South America with his father, where he remained for six years, returned to Italy for a year. Came to U. S. in 1905, settling in Boston. Served in U. S. Army during peace and war. Struggling alone, devoted his spare time to education. Studied at Valparaiso University, Tufts College, Boston University and Harvard Summer School. Author of numerous articles, poems, and songs, etc., many of which have appeared in books, magazines and newspapers. Has written six songs, "Salina" and "Marching to Berlin and to Tokyo", are now on sale. "Eolian Isles", "Panchita", etc. Mr. Russo is active in civic affairs. City councillor since 1939, being the first Italo-American of Boston to be so elected from the 3rd ward. Married Anita DiMare of Boston, Dec. 1, 1929. Children: Josephine, Domenic and Vincent. RUSSO, JOSEPH D .- Proprietor, Original Russo Beauty Salon, now at 41 West St., Boston. Born Palma Campania, Naples, Italy, Nov. 26, 1888. Son of Francis Dello Russo and Marianna Candella. Came to U. S. in 1898, settling in Boston. Educated here and abroad. A natural born creative artist who through his own initiative in the field of hair styling succeeded in becoming one of the most outstanding beauticians in the country. In 1926 he opened the largest beauty salon in the world. His skill in the beauty field soon won national attention including numer- ous of the world's leading movie stars. In the Boston Tercentenary par- ade of 1930, his float was among the finest. Married to Jessica MacNeil of Brighton. Mr. Russo has two sons: Frank and Joseph, serving in U. S. Army forces. Member: Chamber of Commerce; the Elks; and Boston City Club. Fond of baseball, hockey, travel, music, horses and dogs. Res .: 247 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton.

Married Peter Russo of Boston, Oct. 29, 1925. Fond of travelling, art and music. Hobby - interior decorating. Her father was born in Bisegna, Aquila, Italy. Graduated: English High School, 1916; Boston College, 1921, B.A., 1922, M.A. Special courses at Harvard School of Education and Boston Teachers College. Master of English at Boston Public Latin School since 1923. Pioneer American of Italian extraction to teach Eng- lish in the Boston High Schools. Married Mildred Matilda Di Marco, of Boston, June 24, 1926, graduate of Burdett College. Children: Rich- ard, Jeanne, Beatrice and Joyce. Served, World War I, S. A. T. C. Mem- ber: Boston Schoolmen's Economic Ass'n and New England Council of Teachers of English. Active in civic, social service work, camp and club work with young people, particularly at school centers and at Northend Union for over 25 years. His father was born in Manocalzato, Avellino, Italy. Came to America in the early 90's, settling in Boston. His ma- ternal grandfather, Carmine Tedesco, founght under Garibaldi.
