Came to America in 1906, settling in Boston, where he continued study of the clarinet under Straser, Iachia and Arno. Later joined the famous Iachia Orchestra and the 101st field artillery U. S. Band, which took him throughout the U. S. Served in U. S. Army during World War I and saw service in France. Was awarded Croix de guerre for bravery. In recent years devoted most of his time to orchestra playing and teaching the clarinet. Has com- posed numerous outstanding compositions, many of which have been played by leading bands and orchestras. MICELI, SALVATORE-Tailor, Newspaper Correspondent and former Editor of his own paper, "La Fiaccola". Born Lercara, Palermo, Italy, Aug. 7, 1882. Son of Luigi Miceli and Felicia Giordano. Came to Amer- ica in 1904, settling in Boston, where he learned the dressmaking trade, later entered the real estate business. Organizer of the Italian Local Union of International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union, and was its leader from 1915-40. In 1939 he organized the Italian American Citizens' Club of Mass., and served as president for several years. Active in ciic affairs and has contributed largely to every worthy cause. Veteran Italian Navy (as diver) World War I, was on battleship San Giorgio when it sank and King Emanuel III son was on board of the ill fated ship. Came to U. S. in 1930, settling in Boston, where he has since been engaged in the fishing industry. Married Francesca Paola Lauro of his native town in 1937. Two children: Josephine and Mary Rose. Mr. Minofo was on fishing boat St. Anna, which on Nov. 16, 1945, smashed at 7:30 a.m. in the roughest sea experienced that year, on the Provincetown coast, two of the six on board perished, the rest swam ashore, one mile away.

Educated in the public schools of his native town and learned the art of designing in Messina, Italy. Came to America in 1898, settling in New York City, where he worked as ladies' clothes designer. In the ladies' tailoring business in Springfield since 1903, being the first Italian American ladies' tailor in the city. Married Hattie Cora Haring of Springfield, Dec. 27, 1910. Children: John, a graduate of Tech- nical High, now inspector Division of Narcotics in State of California; and Richard, graduate of Technical High, a commercial artist in Spring- field.
