Educated in the public schools of his native town and studied art under his brother Cav. Aquilino. Came to U. S. in 1920 settling in Boston. Studied drawing and sculpture under Ernest Pellegrino and Prof. Andrea Cipollina. In the sculpture field since 1920. Formerly with Zottoli Bros. and with Evan Casson. Mr. Tirone is the pioneer Italian American in New England to originate and introduce the interior plaster window decorations in many of the leading department stores throughout the United States, where his masterpieces may be seen. Children: William Michael Richard, born Aug. 15, 1927, graduate of Needham High, is in U. S. Coast Guard; and Rita Mary, born May 6, 1931, is student. Officer Tocci is member of the K. C., the Mass. In the South Pacific, he took part in the invasion of Iwo Island. Honorably discharged Nov. 11, 1945. Mr. Tocco is member Ameri- can Legion. Fond of baseball, football, travel and music. His father, a native of Terracina, Palermo, Italy, served in the Italian Army World War I where he died in action. He came to U. TONI, FRANCESCO (Frank)-Proprietor, Toni's Shoe Service, 1632 So. Main St., Fall River. Born Fano, Pesaro, Italy, Aug. 10, 1903. Son of Joseph Toni and Domenica Esposti. Attended public schools in his native town, where he learned the trade of making custom shoes. Came to U. S. in 1920 settling in Fall River. Married Antoinette Pieroni of Fall River; April 19, 1927, a native of Partiliano, Lucca, Italy. Children: Edith Dom- enica, born Dec. 3, 1927; Frances Virginia, born July 9, 1935, and Roger Joesph, born Aug. 31, 1937. Member: Order Sons of Italy and Progressive Club. Fond of hunting, fishing and boxing. Travelled with his family in Italy in 1932. Has a sister, Mrs. Rosa Andreani, and two brothers, John and Antonio, all living in Italy. TONIS, J. WILLIAM-Proprietor, Tonis Custom Clothing, 36 High St., Brockton. Born Brockton, Feb. 20, 1911. Son of Frank Tonis and Sarah Anne Moister. Graduated from Brockton High. Attended Syracuse Uni- versity and Lowell Textile Institute. Together with his brother Kenneth took over the above business, established by their father in 1898. Con- sidered among the finest tailoring establishments in the country. Father, the late Frank Tonis, was born in Pomarico, Matera, Italy. Came to U. Italian descenter to establish custom tailoring in the city. He was married to Sarah Anne Moister of Brockton. Had following children: Frank J., graduate of Dartmouth College, is school teacher in Needham; Kenneth R., associated in above business, is veteran U. S. Army; Charlotte, a graduate of Beaver College in Penn., is Lt. in WAC,; Robert, a graduate of Dartmouth and Boston University School of Law, is with F. B. I .; Richard, who attended University of Virginia, served as Major in U. S. Marine Corps; and J. William of this sketch. Mr. Tonis was a man of many activi- ties deeply interested in civic and welfare movements, possessed sterling qualities, and throughout his life, he gladly contributed and sponsored every worthy cause for the good of the community. Died May 26, 1934. Res .: 281 Pleasant St., Brockton.

Member of the K. of C., the Holy Name Society, and Republican 21 Club of Massachusetts. Active in civic and political affairs. Fond of baseball, football, hockey, travel and music. His father was born in Ripe, Ancona, Italy. Came to U. S. in 1906 settling in Plymouth. In Boston since 1920, in the restaurant business. Has following children: Giselda, graduate South Boston High, married to Richard Orlandi; Dolores, graduate Roxbury Memorial High; Dom- enic, and Diva. Res .: 52 Langdon St., Roxbury.


TONUCCI, LISANIO-Restaurateur. Born Ripe, Ancona, Italy, April 1, 1886. Son of Domenick Tonucci and Bianca Orciari. Educated in the High School and College of Senigallia, Italy. Came to U. S. in 1906 settling in Plymouth later in Connecticut, and since 1918 in Boston. Partner of the well known European Restaurant Inc., of 218 Hanover St., Boston, since 1937. Other partners, Richard Orlandi and Joseph Maiocco. Mar- ried Argentina Rolli of Plymouth, Oct. 8, 1908. Children: Giselda, Dolores, Virgil, who is attending Boston College, and Diva. Fond of travelling, history and dramatics. Res .: 52 Langdon St., Roxbury.
