CONTE, DOMENIC-Constable. Born Salina, Messina, Italy, Jan. 20, 1880. Son of Felice Conte and Giuseppa Vasquez. Graduated from Messina Seminary (College). Came to America in 1900 settling in Waltham. Worked for local watch concerns and as insurance agent for 10 years. In 1910 he was appointed criminal investigator for Middlesex County and Constable for City of Waltham. Later was in charge, foreign dept., Waltham Trust Co., for 14 years. Since 1934 has been Mass. State Deputy Tax Collector. Active in civic and welfare movements. Married late Nancy Cincotta of Waltham, whose father was born in Lipari, Italy, and fought in the Civil War. Mr. Conte's father was first class lighthouse keeper in Italy and descendant of long line of noted statesmen. In 1913 Mr. Contrino together with his friend Joseph Graceffa founded the Roma Extract Co., being the first and largest business of its kind in New England, manufacturing flavoring extracts for liquors and cordials, specializing in curing spoiled wines and extracts for making wines. Began in the general grocery and restaurant business in Hoboken, N. J. In 1915 he entered the jitney business. Was the first to operate the taxi and bus business in Jersey City (1918-24). In 1924 he moved to New England and with four others incorporated the Interstate Buses Corporation, in Hartford, Conn. Since 1941 he has been sole owner of the business, operating 30 buses and employing over 50 people. In 1935 he opened the Springfield Bus Terminal with headquarters in West Springfield. Mr. Consiglio married the late Josephine Banifacio of New York. Two children: William, a former student of Northeastern Univer- sity, associated with his father in the business, and Jennie, married to Peter Picknelly. Interne at Robinwood Hospital of Toledo, Ohio and resident physician at Baker's Sanatorium, Lumberton, N. C., for two and half years. In general practice in Gloucester since 1944. Married Katherine Elfriede Rettig, R. N. of Archbold, Ohio, Dec. 17, 1941. She is member of National League of Nursing Education and has taught nursing in North Carolina. Dr. Cordaro's father was born in Sortino, Siracusa, Italy. Came to America in 1907 settling in New York, where he engaged in foreign exchange.
