Mr. Ghirardini's father was born in Corniglio, Parma, Italy, came to U. S. in 1872, was among the pioneer Italian settlers of Boston and the first to sell the first load of bananas that ever came to Boston. He began in fruit business in 1881 in a small way, today it is among the largest in the city, now carried on by his sons-William and Virgil, and by his grandsons-Angelo and John. In 1920 he established his baking establishment in Cambridge which is today among the largest and most modern Italian American bakeries in the state. Also the first to introduce sliced Italian bread. Mr. Giannetti's shops are up to the minute, being the only ones in New England featuring waiting room service, lounge, radio, leather chairs, library of fine books, including an encyclopaedia and smoking room. In the service of city of Springfield as motor equipment operator. Formerly in grocery and confectionery business for 17 years and in plaster of paris statuary industry for seven years. Married Assunta Funai of Barga, Lucca, Italy, July 23, 1917. One son, Felix Peter, a graduate of High School of Com- merce, and Civil Service and Commercial School, now in the service of U. S. Army, is also a musician. Member: American Legion and V. F. W. Fond of boxing, hunting, travel and grand opera. His father came to U. S. in 1890. Was in statuary business for 40 years.
